Terrible Thing

That vicious black dog
Has attacked me again
It was lying in wait,
I just didn't know when

The storm clouds rolled in
The weatherman couldn't predict it
I gotta wait for the storm to pass
Until then I'll feel melancholic

Grumpy gray skies
Will haunt me all my life
And terrible black dogs
Will always cause me strife

I can call animal control
And lock the dog away
Or I can move somewhere
That the sun will always stay

But dogs get loose
And reek havoc all the same
And no place can survive
Without a little rain

But rain comes in torrents
And rabid dogs come charging
It's an inescapable part of life
That renders me to barging

This terrible thing
Happens time and time again
But it can never be predicted
Exactly when

But life still goes on
As all storms will pass
The dog may be biting,
But things can change fast

Sunny skies are waiting
With flowers blooming abundant
All these bad times will be fading
And happiness will ensue
