Temptation of EVE

Peaches bring forth into my mind
glimpses of Eve,
unaware of the billions of women
she condemned with that first bite.

I have a peach once every few years,
it's too good for me to deserve it
any more often than that.

We come into the world as peaches,
fuzzy and full of hope and promise,
only to bruise and get squashed
with the realization-
that we are no pristine peaches,
but simply forbidden fruit.

Do you ever wonder what it tasted like to Eve?
Was it worth the price of
menstruation and
heartache and
childbirth and
confusion?
Was it worth the pain of
losing everything she ever had?

When I bit into that peach today,
I felt it. The true bliss of that fruit and
all it's history; you know-
the bruised parts are the sweetest.
I think it reflects us all.

Once it is gone,
I don't have any direction for a moment.
And then it's back to this sickening reality of
pain and heartache
that Eve delivered upon us.

But if that fruit tasted anything like peaches:
I understand.
