Telltale Signs of Adulthood

When your face gets more and more wrinkles

and your eyes become deadened without its twinkle

that’s when you know you’re an adult

When no one cares about your excuses

It’s all about how you can fix this

that’s when you know you’re an adult

When your get so, so many bills

and they start forming a paper hill

that’s when you know you’re an adult

When you still love cartoons, fart jokes, and games

but admitting it becomes more and more lame

that’s when you know you’re an adult

When kids look up and call you Mr. and Mrs.

and when you give advice they actually listen

that’s when you know you’re an adult

When you know a bit better what to do or say

assess the situation, then jump into the fray

that’s when you know you’re an adult

When you are no longer pulled back and forth by your emotions

And can keep professional in most situations

that’s when you know you’re an adult

When you can take criticism in stride

and not much can hurt your pride

that’s when you know you’re an adult

When you can harness the pain of your present and past

As fuel for a better future, to keep steadfast

that’s when you know you’re an adult

Growing up is hard

but it’s not all bad

When you can stand up to the challenge

and face whatever crap life throws at you head-on

You’ll be proud to know

that you’ve successfully become an adult
