Teach Love

Thank you mommy

Thank you daddy

For teaching me that my curls are beautiful

Thank you mommy

Thank you daddy

For teaching me that my dark skin was crafted by Him

Without you, love for myself would not exist

Told that I am pretty for a dark skin girl,

I would've fell in his arms like rocks

Told that I am not as pretty as my light skin friends,

I would've cried myself to sleep

Thank you for teaching me that lighter is not better

That dark is not synonymous with ugly

That my lips and hips are not all that I have to offer

Thank you mommy

Thank you daddy

For teaching me love, real love

Love for myself began with my love for you

Love for myself began with acknowledging that He makes no mistakes

Thank you mommy

Thank you daddy

For teaching me that I am beautiful
