Tame Yourself

Blood spatter washed away by a fire hose,
I was only 10 years old when I first watched,
It was the middle of February and my teachers made a plot to bring our youthful ignorance to a temporary stop
The showers of hatred, slurs of the racist, food, waste,
Sparked a debate on 1 to 29 on the lesson at stake,
My peers had all wanted to view Caucasian people with hate,
It was up to me to clear their heads before making the mistake,

And of course they wouldn’t listen,

Today I reflect on an era that raised the bar on African American patience,
How a peaceful future had remained latent to a people surrounded by hatred,
They forced blacks to sit together, learn together and grieve together,
Never knowing the unity was air that all could breathe together,
Why can’t I be angry at the Jim Crow laws?
Because wise minds would realize that they were Jim Crow flaws,
Hatched and buried by laws of humanity and anti fatality,
The mind state of revenge would just be fallacy,
I honor those that cried and died for my bright tomorrow,
By striving to grow myself and encouraging my peers to follow,
Follow me, be conscious of where you were and where you’re going,
Follow me, continue the motion and declare your brother unbroken,
Help those who unfortunately can’t picture a brighter path,
Stress the important of math, science, arts, and taking up crafts,
Help maximize potential and lead them to build momentum,
Don’t send him running with weapons and drugs so someone can kill him!
The best way to not forget about the struggles in the 50’s,
Keeping me lifted, and if you see me falling then please lift me,
Should I fall into my troubles, may you and God be my cushions,
We’ll only go as far as the force behind us that keeps pushing
