Tainted Tower

Mon, 08/28/2017 - 13:35 -- Bella_S

Once upon a time

a lonely girl lived

High up in a tower

Locked away in false bliss

With hair as long as time

and eyes as clear as glass

Her heart shone so brightly

That no one could see past

No one "liked" her picture

No one read her post

No one answered texts

She felt like a ghost

She wondered

How can you fly

When your feet

don't hit the ground

How can you succeed

when no one is around

She learned loneliness is inevitable

she didn't need a prince

Her tower felt like prison

but the jail formed in her mind

trapped in her thoughts

stuck in endless time

But one day she realized

She finally understood

They are lonely too

Everyone outside the castle

feels these feelings too

So she let down her hair

not for a prince to climb up

but for the sadness

to slide down

for the insecurity

to escape

for the rotten thoughts filling her mind

to pour out of her life

She took a leap of faith

to let her colors shine

to let these feelings go

to believe she'd be alright
