Survival

Fire escapes are
useless
—until there’s
a fire.

But what is
a fire?

Is it just that
spark from a match?

Is it just that
orangey thing that
takes away lives and
perishes possessions and
consumes memories?

Well, yes, that’s
a fire…

But,
a fire
isn’t always
seen…

Sometimes,
a fire
is inside us.

It’s that thing that
burns our insides,
makes us
angry with
passion,
and rage,
and a number of
not-so-wonderful
things…

And, sometimes,
this fire
manifests

like:

when love abuses us, or
when our parents argue, or
when someone betrays us, or
when the world spits on us, and
we need an
escape.

Fire escapes are
useless
—until there’s
a fire.

And,
there’s always
a fire.
