When I was nine everything seemed fine. I had many friends of all colors because back then everything was bliss. I didn't know the darkness of my skin could cause so much ignorance. It started on a warm sunny day when my friends asked me to come play. It was hot and the sun was beaming on my melanated skin. I could feel the rays as it carressed each particle of my skin. It was nice for a minute, but it became a bit uncomfortable. I asked my friend's mom for some sunscreen and the answer to her question still haunts me. I was "too dark". At first it didn't register to me what she meant, but after pondering the words I understood. That day the only thing that hurt me wasn't the sun it was the words I felt. So from nine to ten I never saw the world the same ever again.
