Sunflowers

I never liked sunflowers.

I thought they were clich

The way roses are

I never liked sunflowers.

I thought their stems were weird

And weren't like those of a tulip

They're too. . .sunny

And I don't know how to deal

With each falling petal.

To be true, they're a mess.

Up until I was given a book

With sunflowers on the cover

And I smiled at the irony.

We're more alike than I thought.

I guess I like sunflowers now. . .
