Sunflowers

You said my eyes reminded you of sunflowers
I wondered if it was the earthy greens and browns
That gleam when the sun hits them
Or how i look to the sky, wishing and waiting
For it to share some of its beauty and shine
Or is it how I prevail through the storms
Even though i seem so fragile i may break?
You said my eyes reminded you of sunflowers
You stood in the field, wading through
Until you saw the one that stood out most
The strongest, the brightest, the lovliest
You could have watered and tended and watched me grow
You said my eyes reminded you of sunflowers
Then you plucked me from my roots
A sunflower can only last so long with a broken stem
You watched as the brightness dimmed
Strength weakened, lovliness wilted
Yet you have not learned from your mistakes
You said my eyes reminded you of sunflowers
Beautiful for a time, but not forever
Once picked, disposable
You return to the field for another
Replaceable
Is this what you meant when
You said my eyes reminded you of sunflowers?
