The Suicide Hotline Volunteer

Ring Ring

The phone rings

I pick it up

And I listen.

Hear me

Know me

Understand.

I need reassurance

I need a plan.

I can’t go like this

I feel so low

Please

Help me.

I listen to the stories

I give them kind remarks

But what I say can’t replace

What has been hurt.

Pow

A shot rings out

Through the phone

Like an endless tunnel

With a sudden end.

I stop

I cry

I wait

Ring Ring

The phone rings
