Storm Sestina

It came without warning, the torrent rain,

more powerful than any ordinary storm.

The mighty trees bend against the strength of the wind

while, in the background, the heavens turn a menacing gray.

The birds are frightened of their Mother Sky;

she throws down her weapons of lightning.

The ground is scorched where it was kissed by lightning

and it floods with the downpour of rain.

Up above, there is a war in the sky-

sanity trying to defend itself against the merciless storm.

The world is washed of color and is now a sickly gray.

No cries can be heard over the roaring wind.

Out of the lips of God, behold the wind.

Out of His fingertips, behold the lightning.

Ashes fall and blanket the land in gray.

His tears become the damaging rain,

His anger causes the monster storm.

There is no ending to the darkened sky.

Oh wait, what is occuring up in the sky?

There is a stillness left behind by the departing wind.

Now, it has become a light sprinkle instead of a storm,

remnants of electricity in place of blinding lightning.

The downpour is no more than the occasional drop of rain,

the bluing sky replaces the gray.

The color soon bleeds intio the landscape of gray,

menacing clouds depart from the sky.

The ground drinks up it's burden of rain,

the smell of flowers comes floating on the wind.

What a vague memory of white-hot lightning,

not a thought for the passing storm.

The peace has returned aftr the destructive storm,

although, there are still lingering clouds of gray.

The squirrels run across the trees like lightning

and the birds continue their dance in the sky.

The leaves are spinning in a colorful vortex among the wind;

the birdsbathe in the puddles formed by the rain.

There is no storm prevalient in the clear sky.

Gray doves ride on the waves of the wind,

as swift as lightning are the goings and comings of the rain.
