Stereotypical

“can I have some change?”

“Can I have a dollar? “

“Just looking for shelter?”

“Can you help a brother out?”

“My children are left in the dark...”

That could be us

that could be you

the dream is that you'll be rich for eternity

the reality of that dream is that you only have $0.43 to your name

so tell me could that dream be turned into reality?

Hard work

dedication

motivation

determination

can all be turned around by discrimination

all you see is the color of my skin

the tone of my voice

and the history you've known to my kind

I'm educated

I'm black

I'm all of the above I'll work as hard as any other

I promise

But I shouldn't have to ...

don't label me by my color as if I'm just another...

another black girl off the street

Tryna steal the shoes off yo feet

at least when you look at me...

that's what you think

but I can’t convince you , I can only be true to me
