Step in Time

I read a book, thoughtful but sad.
Death by Death, it piled up.
No rest, no home, no hope.

I came across a sentence.
Short, so small, yet it stood out.
"To die it is easy, but you must struggle for life."

What did this mean, so full of sadness?
Where is his strength, his wife full of tears?
He must have recited it repeatedly,

When the Nazis came.
