Standing Alone

Standing alone,

In a universe full of clones,

It was not until I joined gymnastics,

That I took a leap entirely on my own.

Standing alone I learned grace,

Not how to chase,

But how to pace my own destiny.

Standing alone watching idols,

I created an image of success,

However it was not until I created my own rhythms and flow,

That I was able to dial into my own ideas to do my best.

Standing alone on the gym floor,

I now understand that gymnastics had gave me grit,

The courage to let go of others' ideas of triumph,

To allow myself to open my own door.

Standing alone in the same body,

I learned not to copy.

Putting others' ideas on the shelf,

So that I may remain true to myself.

Standing alone in the gym,

I learned to grow.

Standing alone in my thoughts,

I learned to glow.
