Squirrels

Do you look back at that day?
And if you do, then how?
Is it with feelings of remorse,
That you relive the past right now?
Do you remember your thoughts,
As they drifted far away?
I tried to make sense of their trails
But they confuse me even to this day.
Do you recall how hard it was
In that moment to decide?
Or had you already decided upon
The decision you would abide?
Do you have any memory of your feelings
As you told a long-held truth?
Do you remember just how much you failed
As my shameful soul you tried to soothe?
I do remember that awful day
When squirrels jumped thinking only to play.
And I remember that awful fall
As the treetops grew above your wall-
And so-stupid, were the ones to climb across it.
Naive, to think that was all there was to it.
So embarrassed they felt as they turn and ran....

To Squirrels, learning from their own mistakes
Can be quite deadly if one's all it takes.
