Soulmate

When my father died

A part of me died with him

He loved me

A bastard

My mother never loved him

I saw his soul diminish

He loved me

Even though he knew

I was not his

I will never love

Love makes you weak

And I am not weak

love can be ugly

It leaves you vulnerable

you can be forsaken

you can be betrayed

you can be used

you can be manipulated

Love is a lie

People falsely believe in its power

A power said to conquer others

Yet anger, violence, and betrayal exist

At its worse

Love is abusive

A loved one hits you

A loved one verbally degrades you

All in the name of love

And yet they stay

Because they love

Forever is ingrained into rings and vows

But

Forever is fleeting

Marriage ends and bitter divorce

Or agonizing tolerance

Love is said to fix our problems

But love causes problems

However

Because I love you

I have changed

You never lie

You tell the truth always

Even if I don't want to hear it

You'll do what's best for me

And for that I love you

You respect me

You know my boundaries

And you never cross them

You know my love for God

And you try to know him

for me

You understand me

And my past

You know I'm scared

of love

of you

leaving

You trust me

And I trust you

I tell you everything

The good and bad

Yet you stay

Because I love you

I have saved myself for you

And act you appreciate

Not something that turns you off

And even though I haven't met you yet

And all my friends tell me a gentleman like you doesn't exist

Behind my apathetic facade

And hardened inexorable heart

I have hope to meet you

My soulmate
