To Someone I Love

Dear Mom,

I know you hate your life

And where you’ve ended up

That even when you smile

Your heart aches to cry

And I’m sorry the world has treated you unfairly

That this is all you have in your life

You once had friends

Things you aspired to be

Places you’ve dreamed of

And things you still wish to see

You had people to cry to,

Someone to vent to

You were once young and saw beauty in everything

But I know that was all ruined,

And you still haven’t had the chance to grieve

You always feel alone,

Even when you’re with me

And I’m sorry you never had the chance

To be who you wanted to be

I’ve always hated looking at you

When you think that you’re not being seen

Because all I see is someone

Who wishes they were free

You left everyone you knew

Learned a language you once didn’t need

Sacrificed your education,

Your dreams,

And your youth,

Just so I could have these things

And there will be a day

Where I hope that you can see

That everything you’ve given up

Is the reason I am me

Thank you.

Sincerely,

 Your Daughter
