Someday

Location

I've been spat at,

Told I do not belong,

"Get out of my country foreinger"

"You are an abomination!

The trash that crowds our streets"

All because of my dark tan skin,

My slight lisp and faint accent,

And the Hispanic blood that flows through my viens.

Is this really America?

The "Home of the Free"?

The "Land of the Brave"?

I've held my head up high,

Kept a smile on my face,

And determination in my eyes and stride;

Ignoring the hateful words of those who despise me

Because of the way I look,

Because of the way I talk,

Because of my origins,

Because I am a Latina.

But someday,

Someday they will need me.

Someday they will want to come see me.

Someday they will need my help.

Someday I will be one of the most renown doctors in the area.

Someday they will eat their hateful words.

Someday

But until that someday,

I will take their insults,

Take their hatred,

Take their doubts,

And use them

Use them to motivate me,

To help me,

To guide me.

So when that someday comes,

I will be ready.

When that someday comes,

I will ease their hate with kind words,

WIth a warm smile,

With a tender touch,

With love

Because of their abhorrance,

I will be where I want to be

Someday.
