So Tell Me America...

Wed, 05/10/2017 - 17:05 -- Dashiia

Is my America your America?

Is this nation truly free?

Is this the land where dreams are made?

Somebody help me please!

See, I struggle with the word freedom because when will we ever be truly free?

How are we free if our women are being told what we're allowed to do with our bodies?

How are we free if we continue to judge people based off of their appearances, rather than their character?

And please tell me, how are we free if we are continuing to fight for work equality, gender equality, race equality, ethnic equality, and religious equality?

We're crying for help America, but some don't understand when they majority says yes, they turn and put us on the test.

But I don't understand why it's 2017 and we're still fighting this war.

You told me, "We the People of the United States,"

You told me, "That all men are created equal."

Well if this is true America, why is it that you're trying to erase me?

Please don't forget about my black and brown sisters and brothers.

Don't we count too?

So tell me America, are we truly free?

This poem is about:
My community
My country
Our world
