Smile
Smile.
Don't ask questions, don't wonder why, just smile.
I plaster the grin on my face, it doesn't meet my eyes.
Bitterness sparks.
Good enough for you?
Hey Society? Yay or Nay?
I glance at the horizon in my internal safe oasis.
There is something there, beyond the mountains.
I reach for it.
SMILE!
My hand is jerked back.
Words snake around me hissing, "Act happy. Be happy. Do what others want you to do. Be like
them, you'll be happy."
The voices are of evil itself.
They cackle and...
The words cry out in pain as a ray of pristine light touches them.
They whimper and retreat to lick their wounds in their maggot holes.
I grasp my chance and sprint to the light.
It warms me and sparkles like glitter floating softly in the air.
I reach a cliff and peer over the edge into the light.
A pure crystalline laugh escapes my lips.
I jump.
all masquerade in the past,
incandescently happy, the light caressing my cheeks,
I smile.
