Small Things

Fri, 09/19/2014 - 10:20 -- hjsrea

Coffee in a steaming mug,

Arms wrapped in a warm bear hug,

A day of peaceful falling rain,

A laugh.  A smile.  A daisy chain.

A sun that shines up in the sky,

An ocean breeze, a seagull’s cry,

A teapot’s whistle, a city’s bustle,

The refreshing morning stretch of muscle.

Colored petals in the cool of spring,

Summer’s heat on a playground swing,

Autumn’s leaves crunching underfoot,

Winter’s cold and fireplace soot.

We need only look, they’re all around:

Small pleasures above or on the ground;

But if we only took some time,

Stepped out of the expectations line,

We’d find the roses smell just fine.
