Slowdown

Luke 13:23-24            New English Translation

23 Someone asked him, “Lord, will only a few be saved?” So he said to them,

24 “Exert every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to.

One step at a time

Can we walk in Christ’s footsteps with our desires being different from His?

Hanging on to Christ’s coattails, but really not liking where He goes

Running out of energy, somewhere along the path, we have to let go

For we surely don't have strength enough to the enjoyment of God’s foes

If our heart’s desires are different from God's, and still, we deeply toil

Not following His direction, where do you think we’ll wind up?

Exactly where you want to be, but surely not where God desires

Somewhere you will compromise beguiled by flesh and stuff

The soul's energy is underestimated, and nothing hinders the union more

Between yourself and God as all things outside of Him are vain

For these things are flesh indeed in our thoughts and strength

For the ones outside of God who are cursed and downed by pain

The more the vitality of the soul is crushed, the more our will centers on God

The new life we have then will be completely inclined to our Maker

But repressing comes from the “old” soul that won’t give up the ruling

Of its destined wants and wishes until it meets the undertaker

Narrow is the path and narrow is the gate only a pedestrian travels there

Step by step, you move into just one direction where God’s Will is the standard

So don’t get in a hurry …
