Skin Deep

People belittle others

With hurtful words

And damaging actions

When they don’t look inwards.

Skin deep

Is how we think

Of those we see

While strolling down the street.

Beauty is not skin deep.

It delves deeper than that.

We seem to have forgotten

About this ideal we used to keep.

If all of this were to change

And people weren’t dubbed strange,

The world would be joyous and gay

With happiness each day.
