Skin Covered Destiny
Location
What a shame, how we all were treated before,
False accusations, people judged the color of skin.
Our potential, needs, and feelings were forgotten, ignored,
Our worn and torn shoes, no one has thought to step in.
One war brought light to those abandoned in the shadows,
Strongly united, nothing could stand against us.
We were not interested in maintaining the status quo,
Winning was tough, but receiving rights was a plus.
The civil war changed fine print that creates law,
It stirred peace within the hearts of whites.
Now one can see intelligence within me, instead of flaw,
My daddy can receive a job that pays right.
If it wasn't for the civil war, I wouldn't be here,
I am not only black but white as well.
I'm glad my parents could fall in love, without any fear,
And I'm glad America could accept me and God's angels.
