silent

i met my depression for coffee

i wanted to know what I had done to earn her apathy

"why?" i asked

but she sat in silence, watching the rain drops slide down the roof

tears pricked my eyes

frustration built in my fists

the words piled up in my throat

years of the unspoken pouring from my lips like a broken levy

and still...

she just sat...

in silence...

so I climbed up on to the roof,

the one she was watching the rain drops fall from

and I jumped

at least now I don't have to listen to the deafening sound of her silence
