Silence So Loud

Location

She cries out in pain with hunger two days without food maybe three

she can’t tell

her mommy sits there doing another hit in a constant state of buzz

why is she being ignored?

what’s going on?

she doesn’t get where this hurt comes from

she’s young

never learned to talk

or maybe she’s just too scared

her daddy drinks his pain then comes home and lashes out

so loud it hurts her ears

till they bleed a deep red blood

the hits, so hard everything is black

black and blue

again and again they come until she’s almost done

she just wants it all blocked out

the pain the violence and even her own silence

why wont they listen?

is there someone out there to save her? Can anyone come save her?

she longs for a voice that isn’t given to her

kept in the dark for so long

used to have a brother

he’s long gone now

alone in this perpetual state of hell

wishing for liberation out of her damnation

she looks up at the sky like her mommy sometimes does

wishing for some help that she knows will never come

she lies back down on the dirty stained floor

hoping to make it to tomorrow

but at the same time hoping not to even more.
