This Side Of Me

Sun, 08/20/2017 - 22:51 -- hlhmay

This side of me is hidden,

Like a leopard in its den.

I keep it safe and shielded

From the monsters under beds.

Here my child-like wonder

Will not fear as she wanders

She can contemplate the stars

And climb the monkey bars

Wonder brings this side to light

And makes it such a sight

She is who stares at butterfly wings

And dances carelessly.

She climbs up rainbows

And races as fast as the wind can go

She brings joy into our lives

And eases away our strife

But not all approve of this friend of mine

To them she's impulsive and less than fine

She's been beaten and bruised

Broken and abused

If only they could see

Just how much happiness she brings

I could coaxe her out of hiding

And teach the world how to sing.
