When she was a child

She was flawless

Despite her tangled hair

That her mommy

Called “The Nest”

She was flawless

Despite the jeans

She ceased to wear

When her teacher

Made fun of the writing on the butt

She was flawless

Despite the things

She changed about herself,

She was innocent

She was happy

She was pure

When she was an adolescent

She was flawless

Though she did not treat

Herself that way

Or realize it yet

She was flawless

Despite the scars

On her wrists

And the tears

In her eyes

She was flawless

Despite the food

That went untouched

Into the trashcan

She tried to laugh

Everyday

And she tried

To be strong

For those around her

She was brave

She was courageous

She was resilient

When she was a teenager

She was flawless

And she finally began to see

Herself that way

For beauty is

Skin deep

And smiles

Are the

Greatest accessory

And her compassion

Shines brighter

Than her  lip gloss

She is wise

She is limitless

She is alive

And so I think

The thing

That made her

Most flawless

Was when she accepted

That she

Is not flawless

At all

But now

She loves herself

Nonetheless
