She Longs for the Summer

She longs for the summer,
For days of sunshine and of thunder.
Back to the place where happiness
Isn't a chore
And sadness is never an option,
Not until "goodbye."

She longs for the summer,
Going back home just once more.
For friends who are not only.
For her family,
The one she chose.

She longs for the summer,
Tie-dyed shirts, crazy socks,
And smiles to adorn each face.
Sunburns and bug bites
On the surface,
But joy in every soul.

She longs for the summer,
Voices shouting, laughing,
And singing silly songs.
Giggles in cabins,
Too often the life in the night.

She longs for the summer,
Where among the trees and
With a breath of fresh air,
Her heart can, once again,
Begin to heal.
