A shadow in my dream

An image in the darkness, a silhouette a face

walking slowly, walking surely, make sound without a trace

rumbled lowly as a pulse, as a heart beat of a drum,

with an echo hollow ringing, and the panting breath undone.

Bringing creeping little droplets, of one's persistent sweat,

letting covers cling so tightly, around the body's coffined threat,

with familiar music playing, the erie silence of this song.

the panic and conundrum, the crescendo of what went wrong,

the eyes of judgment widening, the awful stares implores,

seeking out your shameful moments, making plain the faults untold

calling out to loved ones boldly, how one could be so bold,

putting light in dreadful places, causing eyes to squeeze into their mold

as the heart beats like a rapid gallop and the legs go stiff with fright,

"Oh help me," says the sought one, as the silhouette comes nigh

Begging loudly, sobbing softly into the void oh so unclear,

Then slams the bedroom door, and I wake up with my shocked ears

With sunshine in the windows and my frightened body here.
