Shadow Behind Our Walls

Location

In the darkness they lie

In the places we hide

Not wanted nor desired

On the streets in the cold

Where the piercing sidewalk behind the thundering street becomes a hotel bed

Under the melting heat

Walking for hours in vain desperately searching for their last hope to keep from slowly lying dead

Why must it be this way

Must they be punished for being a lost soul bound in poverty

Where is their helping hand reaching out to them

Where is there someone to pick them up and dust them off

Someone to give them hope that this world is changing

That this generation won’t just sit here and shuffle our problems under the rug

We help those in other countries and forget the ones in our own backyard

One only has to drive around the corner and there is poverty sitting under the street light

Why wait? Change the world the way you want it to go

Pick up a bottle of water, grab a blanket no longer used, bring the food that’s just going to go to waste

Because someone out there is in need

Let’s be the voice, let’s be the way of the now

Because something needs to change

Let the walls be broken that tries to hide them

Let the light shine down on the ones in shadows

Let our actions create the path to the better future
