Living in a universe of sadness and despair,
The shadow sits around,
No one caring that he's there

Stepped on and abused, he didn't even dare,
Reach out to other people.
They wouldn't even care.

He attempted and he tried, to laugh and to have fun,
But they crushed him, kept him down.
Every single one.

His owner didn't want him, detached him by the feet,
He sat alone in silence,
A body without heat.

Broken, beat, and scarred, he wandered on alone,
Trying to get by,
Trying to find home.

Going through his life, he saw the others' pain,
The other lonely shadows,
Were happy soon again.

But then one day, to his surprise, he met her although far,
He didn't truly see her,
But he knew they shared a scar.

They bonded for a while, and closer they became,
The distance being different,
The love, quite the same.

Being hurt and beaten, they knew the world was rough,
And while the distance was a nuisance,
The love had been enough.

He loved her and he cared, he knew his love was pure,
He had always been abandoned,
But to her, he meant more.

She would hurt and she would cringe from the pain inside her heart,
And he'd cry and he would wonder,
Why they were so far apart.

He was almost healed, his pain was almost gone,
But she had been in agony,
Feeling like a pawn.

He tried to help and tried to be there for the one he loved,
That other lonely shadow,
Who fit him like a glove.

But to his great confusion, and to his great surprise,
His owner had come back,
But to his dark demise.

He tried to go and comfort her, but little did he know,
The feet would come and step on him,
Disallowing him to go.

He tried and tried to break free from the solid iron gate.
He cried and cried when he realized,
It was already too late.

She thought he didn't love, and she thought he didn't care,
He ached and pained and tried to show,
His heart was truly there.

Now he waits in a silence, only broken by his tears,
To try to make amends,
To try to ease her fears.

He cannot see her clearly, the distance in the way,
He tries to think of something,
To wash her fears away.

But still he tries to do his best, and hold on truly tight,
He won't let go, he won't give up,
He tries with all his might.

He sits again in silence, bleeding from his scar,
The shadow whom he truly loves,
So close and yet so far.
