a selfish soujourn

the flourescent lights
on her iridescent skin
reveal the railroad tracks
of her train with no brakes
"all aboard," the ageless conductor cries
she climbs in.

the train begins to go forth,
but in its journey it is going nowhere
a product of what may have been
and what could be
a waste of energy
a waste of time
and as the cabin walls begin to close in,
she wonders why she boarded
at all.
