Self

Mon, 06/29/2015 - 22:39 -- Bezam

In this perilous sea,

What I see is profound

A daft society

Two which I'm not bound

I'm not saying I'm perfect

By no means is that true

What I do now conclude is

I cannot be like you

Even though I don't know

Which way I should go,

I know not to follow the road

That eveyone takes

That is a mistake

that I dare not make

for dignity's sake.

I don't have to be like everyone else

to have a sense of self.

My worth is just not defined

by the time that I spend

trying to fit in.

I don't want to be "in"

if it means giving in

to the masses and classes

of those who propose

that I be someone else

and just lose myself

and all that I've been.

I don't know who I am

but who I am not

is a mindless robot

who is caught in this web

of worrying about where my clothes will be bought

or what new trends are hot.

I was not taught

to put much thought

in trivial trends that try to amend

what is not broken.

So, there is nothing wrong with my individuality.

And that's what I like about me.
