On the Seine

This is the City of Light!

It is chilly tonight.

My hazel hair in the wind—

a tree with many branches.

The riverboat floats under Pont Neuf

and it’s like passing through Heaven’s gates.

Listen!

On the river’s banks,

the music is verdant.

The French dance together, their laughter

like a wave hitting the boat.

A woman searches with her hands,

as if she wants to entrap the many stars.

A couple kisses recklessly,

like the drunk men falling over each other.

My body tingles with excitement.

I want to collect the glitter

of the night in my wide smile.
