School Lunch

Another school lunch at the beginning of

Another school year.

The staff handed out our student ID’s,

It looks bad.

But not as bad as my permit,

Or that God awful picture

That someone else posted on facebook.

We all have at least one of those pctures,

Unless you don’t have social media.

Then you have something the rest of us don’t,

Brains.

The cookies at lunch still taste kind of bad,

But the lunch is half decent.

Either the food has improved or my tastebuds have given up.

This isn’t to be dreary or depressing,

But funny.

It’s funny how life works.

All summer I thought about

All the friendships I’d failed at building

The year before.

Yet this year at lunch,

After awhile of searching,

I found somewhere to sit.

Somewhere good for me.

All of us are awkward,

Most of us are either Bi or Gay,

And we’ve all been outcasts

At one time or another.

Somehow that bonds us.

We know how it fills. . . .

We aren’t all good friends yet,

But for once

I truly think

That maybe someday

We will be.
