Scars of a whale

Location

Grand Manan, New Brunswick, Canada
Canada

The edge of the boat chills my hands,

As I stare at the vast marble sea.

The wind fills my hair with flavor,

As we race the waves expeditiously.

The ship came to a muted stop,

The waves modeled our freeze,

Utter stillness filled the atmosphere,

As we waited breathlessly.

Moments later we heard the creature,

Blaring its breath onto the waves.

And then a hump appeared on the scene,

Sparkling a silvery sapphire.

The massive soul disappeared once more,

Isolating me and the tide,

But that small moment seemed enough,

To write an entire novel.

But alas, for a second that seemed like a year,

The whale emerged, shattering the glass of water.

The mammal defied the laws of gravity,

And mid-air my mind put the moment on pause.

As Time froze, my mind began to understan,

How miniscule I was.

I am but a small plankton in the universe,

Inside of an enormous picture.

When the trials of life become too hard to bear,

I can always remember how small they truly are.

There are things much larger than comprehension,

And there are an incredible amount ecstatic moments.

The whale taught me through one short moment,

That my life doesn’t need to stop because of one bump.

I have many scars, and many will come,

But so do the marvelous humpback whales.
