Saying Goodbye to a Soldier

Hey I know you're hurt I know you're tired
But would you mind if we stayed a while
With you in my arms and hand on my heart
Forgetting the times that we've spent apart

The pain's in your eyes and tears on my cheeks
No time to say goodbye tomorrow's a new week
You face the danger while I sit here all alone
I can't help but worry until you've come home

A knock on the door five minutes ago
Has left me so broke one half of a whole
How can I go on when you're no longer here
When you took your last breathe there on the battlefield

The funeral today has come and gone away

Our house is cold and the hurt is here to stay

Your face is on my mind and your heart in my soul

But I need to heal and move on from the life you stole
