Sandpaper Hugs

I heard the repeated questions

Rain, Rain

But didn’t fathom the reason.

Go away

Shrouded in forgotten specifics

Come again

His sickness lingered in his mind.

Some other day

The adoration of a granddaughter is blinding

If you don’t

Between tears I realized I had lost him twice,

I don’t care

No hugs with sandpaper cheeks chafing mine.

I'll pull down your underwear!
