I have to wake up,
It is still dark, yet I stir.
My tired eyes open,
And I start from my bed.
Going to the kitchen,
My tired feet carry me.
Minimal food,
Water to sustain.

The dawn is near,
It is almost time.
I tightly lace my shoes,
Mentally prepare now.
I can,
I will,
I must.

Slowly I start,
The April wind is crisp.
My weary mind protests,
Yet my body persists.
Steadily speeding up,
Half a mile has passed.
The wind is cold on my face,
I continue.
Now I’m faster,
Feet to concrete,
Accelerating.
Slam,
Push,
Bound.

My lungs burn,
They feel like giving out.
Continue,
Failing leads to regret.
No regrets,
Keep pushing.
Faster now,
Nearly full force.
Lungs fill with cold air,
They burn intensely.
Control it.
In,
Out.
Breathe.

Minutes pass,
Miles go by.
The sun creeps up,
Warm on my face.
Keep going,
Nearly there.
Muscles are sore,
And body is weary.
The mind is powerful,
It keeps me going.

I see it,
Where I stopped.
That was yesterday,
And I am stronger today.
I continue.
Building,
Gaining,
Strong.

I’m training,
A marathon.
I will not give up,
I refuse.
The wind is calmer,
Opposite of my spirit.
The sun is brighter,
My resolve is stronger.
I continue.

Running.
Learn it.
Train it.
Beat it.
Live it.
Love it.
