Riverbed

Wed, 05/23/2018 - 12:31 -- T.Cohen

I’m living life in a river bed --

The path was drawn before I was born.

The world is so loud and full of life,

But silence cannot be hidden here.

I’m living life in a river bed --

Never questioning the rocks that appear.

Run the course, make a turn, avoid a fear --

And start all over at the end.

I’m living life in a river bed --

I pass a new spring running into the path.

How lucky to go where you wish,

To choose your own river to follow.

I’m living life in a river bed --

The banks are high and block the view.

The banks are high and I want out,

But the current hurries away.

I’m living life in a river bed --

Jagged stones cut sharply through the water.

I see, for they are windows

To the world I wish I knew.

I’m living life in a river bed --

The silence is so full.

Someday I’ll catch the wind and ride

Until I can see the world.
