The River Jordan

“The River Jordan”

I know you think I never cared,

And it’s true, I usually didn’t

But for a point in time, I was yours and you were mine

And we were an art rivaled by Klimt

I know you think I hate you

And more often than not, I did

But you made me smile and forget for awhile

And we laughed through struggles amid

I know you think you’ve been wronged

And you’re right, I fucked you up

But at the same time, you forgot me in the grime

And our wheels broke in the rut

I know you’ll never forgive me

And that’s fine, follow your gut

But you’ll think of me in the stars and the trees

And your guilt will deepen your cut

I hope you know I love you

And I care about your world

But I wasn’t ready and you were unsteady

So over the edge we were hurled…
