A Ripple in the Sea

Together is where I thought we would always be,

until that day you were snatched away from me.

Sitting on this rock,

watching the waves,

Remembering the days.

The day I met you,

The day I called you blood,

The day we cried and swore, come hell or high water,

None one would find two like no other.

We always knew we would be together.

Despite the pain, despite the weather.

But just like that! With a

CRACK! CRACK! CRACK!

a heart stopped beating,

a chest stopped rising,

a body stopped shaking,

Blood stained the cement, and the tears shed could create a new ocean.

To walk the hallways at school,

past your locker,

and know you will never be there,

is a pain I cannot bear.

I lost a friend, a family member,

The memories I have I will always remember.

I want to stay strong, I want to carry on.

But what for?

The Determination, the Will, it all left.

When you took your last breath.

You’re my backbone,

There is no way I can continue on my own.

I can feel the wind whipping my hair,

The thunder roaring in the distance,

The tides coming in stronger.

As I stand, I realize the perfect way

to end all the pain.

And to the 16 year old boy who took you away,

Because you wore your pretty red and black dress,

He mistook you for being in a gang.

To the 16 year old boy, I say,

When you took her life you took another.

But I cannot blame you or any other.

Even thought the hand that guided you belonged to your brother.

Its over. The choice was made. And so is mine...

Rain starts to pour,

and I whisper my last goodbyes.

I stand closer to the edge to breathe in the air.

You used to like the way it smelled when it rained.

Fresh, clean, so you said.

Funny how I never noticed until now.

Together is where I thought we would always be.

I close my eyes; take a deep breath and lean.

The pain fades away...

Slowly.

I see your face grinning at me.

I smile, happy that you are looking back at me.

Together, forever, is where we will be.

Even if all it took was a ripple in the sea.
