Rings

I've been caught inside these rings.
They squeeze and squeeze
And I
unknowingly
don't feel a thing.

But yesterday was different.
Yesterday I said,
I know you're there,
but I will accomplish something instead.

So I did.
I pushed.
I went hard.
It felt like those rings were slow motion exploding inside of me.

I emptied everything I had into tearing those rings to shreads.

And this morning
when I woke up
the shrapnel from those rings
had been beating on my muscles all night long.

But I know those rings are gone
for now

It's a constant struggle
A continuous fight
They'll grow back if I back down tonight.
