Rest Easy, Our Princess

Location

She was an artist
She drew from the inside to cope with what was happening on the outside.
She was forced into the wrong body
and every pencil mark was the punch of each
"Him" "He" "Joshua"
When all she needed was a
"Her" "She" "Leelah"

Leelah Alcorn took her life on December 29th, 2015
The same day, her mother posted on facebook.
Asking for prayers while continuously misgendering her daughter,
and calling the suicide,
an accident.

I am not right now in this life transgender.
But I feel an odd connection to Leelah.
I have delt with erasure of my sexuality by my parents, as I know many others have.
I am aware it's not the same as gender identity, but I can sympathize with it.

But in no way
have I delt with parents to vile
that they refuse their own childs wishes on their grave
like washing away footprints in the sand they act as if the suicide note was non existant.
Like 300 thousand of us haven't already reblogged it
or read it on our dashboard
or on the news article.

They buried her in a suit, like spreading salt in the wound.
Her tombstone reads "Joshua Alcorn".
How can you, in gods name, be so against your child's identity...
when you know it is the very thing that killed them...
to not respect it in their final resting place.
Everyone else can,
so why can't the very people who killed her.

Because you, Carla Alcorn, cannot,
we all have become Leelah's Warriors.
We are spreading the message she wanted spread.
Starting the movement she wanted started.
We are fighting the battle, you refused to let her fight.
She could have been amazing
Scratch that,
She is amazing

She is starting this movement,
and even though she can't see it
She has started something breathtaking.
She has started a movement that will be stronger than you can ever imagine
Rest easy, our princess.
Let us fight for you now.
