Resilient Bird

From the very start

the odds were stacked

against us.

But you were a thief,

and the way you stole the

air from my lungs

made me ache

for you.

We were soft and we

were younger than we are

now,

scared to love one another

because of the way the

world would stare back at

us.

And so we did it,

fearlessly,

courageously,

and entirely.

You lifted me up and

I laughed at all your jokes,

you made me feel like a

bird,

free to be who I am,

free to love you,

free to love me.

Perhaps we loved each other

far too much,

or perhaps are souls burned

out along the

way,

but we were both so stubborn

and so young,

and we tried,

oh god,

we tried.

But you taught me what

love is,

how it is supposed to

feel,

and for that,

you will always be

a part of me.

Because I love you,

because I always will,

I will never give up on

love,

and despite our downfall,

I will rise

again.
