Reminiscent

Location

I remember when we were young and free,

You were sittin' next to me in your army green.

And you were all packed up and ready to go,

Then you said to me, "Don't worry, I'll be coming home."

But when I watched that plane start to fly,

I couldn't help but cry.

Every night I'd send up a prayer:

"God, keep him safe and give him care."

Because every once in a while,

I'd get a letter that'd say:

"You know I'll be coming home someday."

I remember when I turned that radio on,

He said, "We'll be sending more troops out at dawn."

A soleman voice crackled on the air,

As he read the names of the soldiers there.

Every night I'd send up a prayer:

"God keep him safe and give him care."

Because every once in a while,

I'd get a letter that'd say:

"You know I'll be coming home someday."

I remember when you came down the aisle,

I couldn't shed a tear, I couldn't fake a smile.

You were covered in the stars and stripes,

Because you fought for us, too keep our rights.

Now every once in a while,

I read your letters that say:

"You know I'll be coming home someday."
