A ransom

The stress of never knowing
The feeling of loneliness forever growing
My darkened heart now showing
Slowly enslaving me within my own mind
Trapped. The exit seems impossible to find.
Seemingly looking out through eyes that I stand behind.
Forced to see the world but unable to feel.
Holding on to memories that no longer seem real.
Unable to even force a smile at will.
Those once loved met with a cold embrace
Eating the dry bitter fruits of life, so with whiskey I chase.
In a hurry to meet my demise like it was a race.
Yet hope is not completely lost
A ransom must be paid but what's the cost?
Love warm enough to melt the frost
Only then can a darkened heart beat again
The chains will break that bind it in sin.
Oh how I long for my heart to love again.
