The Rain Will Never Come

The Rain Will Never Come

By: Caleb Goldstrom

Do you think the flower knows the rain will not come?

With the thundercloud rolling above him promising rain but passing without a drop.

Does the flower spread its leaves, extend its roots, for her, waiting for her to be ready?

But will the rain ever come?

The Spring

The cloud gave the flower rain daily.

He constantly felt the rain hit his roots and stem.

Planted in the belief of rain, waiting for her to deliver.

Trusting in the chance of rain for another day.

The Summer

Dry and hot, there has not been any rain lately.

So thirsty for just a drop of rain to quench the barren soil.

What choice does he have other than to wait patiently and hopelessly?

The Fall

Why does the cloud not tell the flower blatantly;

There will be no more rain.

Instead of rain, you put him through harsh tornadoes.

The Winter

Ask the flower why he could not uproot itself, could it simply move to fertile land?

Her cold heart is on her way to bring him the promised rain.

The snow sprays down, wilting him.

Quenchful like rain but burns like summer.

Does the cloud know that the flower will always stay?

She can go with the wind but always come home to her dear flower.

She lost the energy to keep giving him rain a long time ago, giving him all she had.

Did the flower plant roots too early?

Why do you wait, flower?

Will you fore come to your agony, flower?

There will never be rain.
